There’s this thing that often happens were a mom

There’s this thing that often happens were a mom will walk in, hand her baby to me, and disappear.

Whether I’ve met the child before or not.

It happens at family gatherings… work… church… school.

I’m kind of a baby whisperer.

Parents have even said of the sleeping baby in my arms, “That child doesn’t warm up to anyone.”

I really thought that by 32 I’d be the mom corralling my collection of children at family gatherings.

Yet here we are.

So today I’m thankful for moms (and dads) who let me borrow their little ones for a few hours (or all day).

I was picking out my cucumber when I felt the dyna

I was picking out my cucumber when I felt the dynamics of the grocery store change.

Behind me two executives in store-branded masks walked through the produce section.

“Things look really great here,” one of them said to the man restocking the bananas.

I think he was thrown off they were even talking to him.

They continued their store tour, but for a moment I watched him.

A customer approached the banana display.

“Thank you for putting out new bananas. You’re doing a great job.”

The invisible man with the cart of bananas was given two compliments.

I adjusted my normal grocery route to discretely follow the executives.

Every space they walked, the dynamics changed.

Their kindness was contagious.

Their laughter made me smile.

They didn’t address anyone by name but they acknowledged every employee they passed with a verbal high five.

For even just a moment, those essential workers mattered.

Kindness. It makes people feel seen.

The shirt to wear to the vaccine appointment is a bigger decision for me than getting boosted.

After celebrating victory over 2020 and declaring we’re better together, I am ready to be released!

Released to the international world.

Released to concerts and church.

Released to hugs and crowds.

Released from the pandemic, the great resignation, and the shipping delays.

I can’t find my shirt that says HOPE but I definitely hope together we are released from “2020” soon.

PS: I thought my tired face was being a little melodramatic for the camera, but my coworkers have assured me it’s accurate. I’m glad to discuss why I chose to get vaccinated and my side effects in a civil conversation in my DMs.
