What if Thanksgiving wasn’t a holiday?

What if there were no cross-cultural meals in the history of our nation?

What if there were no pilgrims, no sweet potatoes, no pies?

What if we didn’t pause annually to celebrate what we have?

What if people didn’t use the month of November to express self-control and only share things they’re thankful for?

What if November had more than 30 days and those facebook posters had to figure out more than 30 things they’re thankful for?

What if an attitude of thanksgiving went beyond Thursday?

What if it even went into Friday?

What if on Friday we were all still thankful for what we claimed to be thankful for on Thursday?

What if on Friday we weren’t killing each other over items we’re buying for ourselves in pre-Christmas sales?

What if Thanksgiving was more than a holiday?

What if Thanksgiving was a lifestyle?

We would be more content, more generous, more beautiful people.

As my pastor says, thanksgiving would become Thanks-living.
