Did you read yesterday’s story at Melissa’s blog? Did it break your heart? If you haven’t read it yet, you’re going to want to know my friend named Loser in order for this post to make more sense. We’ll wait. Just don’t forget to come back here. There’s a give-away at the end.

Chinese class.

This class gave me a new name

Welcome back.

Did Loser make you melt?

Unfortunately, her story is not unique. There are children all over the world being called

  • Loser
  • Worthless
  • Mistake
  • Unwanted
  • Ugly

Don’t believe me?

(Watch it on YouTube: One Act by Compassion)

Through Compassion, you get to turn a child’s story into a story worth telling. You make it possible for him to be hugged, loved, and told about Jesus. You get to be the one who calls her

  • Beautiful
  • Beloved
  • Friend
  • Precious
  • Cherished

September is blog-month for Compassion International. There are a group of us all over the web who are using our blogs to rescue children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Please Join Us

1. Let God break your heart for what breaks His.

Look into the eyes of children living in poverty. Ask the Lord to show you His heart for the poor. Allow Him to use you to make a difference.

2. Pray

Pray for the children. Pray for the families. Pray for the Compassion team. Pray for the bloggers. Pray that we’re all willing to be used by God for His glory.

3. Sponsor a child.

My family now sponsors one child for every child in our immediate family. It hasn’t always been easy but we have no regrets.

4. Write your sponsored child.

It makes a bigger difference than you could ever dream!

5. Join the cause.

Become a Compassion blogger. Share your story. Use your blog, your Twitter, your Facebook, your Pinterest, your whatever you’ve got to make a difference in the lives of children around the world. Help these beautiful children live their own story worth telling.

    Katie,

    Yes, yes, yes!

~Received a letter from our sponsored child and I am writing
    him today.

    He is a
year older than my oldest son (high school).

    His letters
are written with affection and graciousness.

He encourages us and we feel
humbled to receive so much from a boy thousands of miles away.

~Your post and video remind me that we are all impacted by
His Word to us. Currently, my Sunday
School class is studying 1 Peter and I have been reading that letter several
times a day. We are strengthened and encouraged by letters by other believers.

~ A friend called last night and the connection was not
clear. She said, (I heard), “Will you
play tomorrow?” I asked a little bit and realized I had misunderstood. She had wanted me to pray tomorrow. Ahh! Both.
Pray and play for and with children in the world and in our lives.

Thanks for writing, sharing, encouraging us.

      Well done!

I incorporate my sponsored child into my daily prayer time,
and I just wrote her right now. Since she’s so young (only five!) I try to keep
my letters practical, and focused on how to find God in the mundane. Today was
about how awesome Jesus is for providing the rain that soaked me when walking
into work; God provides for the flowers
and grass that had been turning brown! Sponsoring through Compassion is great,
and I’m really urging that friends also make the commitment to invent in
    eternity.

      That’s great, Casey!

Katie, We sponsor a girl from India through Compassion. Jess has the opportunity to visit an orphanage in Uganda last month and now we also sponsor two boys. Liz

I didn’t know that, Liz. How cool that you guys also sponsor two boys. Seems fitting since you have all girls.

Thank you for sharing this story, Katie. I have a friend that is a missionary with Crisis Care Training International. They train people to work with children in crisis. She recently did training in The Philippines. She told me many of those being trained to help these children were graduates of Compassion. Really neat that those that were helped now desire to pay it forward!

That’s awesome, Sherry! This detail will be stored in the back of my brain may appear in some blog post later in life.
