I’d already talked to her twice that day. She knew I was having a do nothing day and invited me to do nothing with her family who was also doing nothing.
Except that I was doing something: I was browning more taco meat than I could possibly eat that night.
She suggested pizza, and I [...]
Do you ever have weeks where you feel like you’re all over the place?
That was my week. Physically I’ve had appointments in three different cities all at least an hour away. But also cyber-ly.
On Wednesday I was at STORY Chicago’s site telling about how Amy Jacobs, a marketing [...]
I have no problem sharing my heart… privately. I will open up to just about anyone as long as it’s one-on-one.
Sometimes I’ll share a brief aspect of what I’m thinking in small-ish groups (10-25) but it’ll be brief and only if I’m confident. Who am I to take everyone’s time?

The Compassion volunteer showing off child letters, grandchildren photos, and knee replacement x-rays all in the same binder.
My college roommates insist these kind [...]
I sat staring at the mug wondering how to paint it. Noticing my struggle, the studio owner swooped up beside me and began to ask questions about the mug. Eventually she got me to confess that I wanted to splatter paint but didn’t want to make a mess.
“We’re all about making messes here,” she [...]

You always spend time with the same people because you’ve established those relationships. You go to the same places because going anywhere else just wouldn’t make sense.
It’s great advice. Advice I already knew but needed to hear again (and still need to hear again and again). Advice that has kept me from posting plenty of things here on my blog.
“Have someone–who is not your blog–share your heart with.”
Ouch.
I’m an introverted writer. The loudest way I process is with [...]
